Faculty Development Seminars

The CCBSR will provide faculty-development seminars on strategic management and business strategy.

The seminars will be open to faculty from all universities in China.

The first seminar will be held in July 2005.  The length of the seminar will be five full days of instruction.  It will begin at 2 p.m. on July 20, 2005, and finish on the evening of July 25.

The seminar will be taught by Wang Daowen (English name Warnock Davies, PhD), who is the Director of the Center for Chinese Business Strategy Research at Shaoxing University.  The teaching materials will include his bilingual textbook Strategic Management (published by Science Press, Beijing, 2004).

The seminar will cover the principles of strategic management and business strategy, the elements used in strategic analysis and strategy formulation, decision factors that influence strategy formulation, and implementation issues.  There will also be some discussion of curriculum design and teaching methods.  All of the cases used in the seminar will be business situations in China.

The seminar will be taught in a special inter-active teaching classroom, using active learning methods.  The work will be demanding, and only teachers who are serious about their learning and professional development should attend.

The seminar can be taken by university teachers who have medium levels of English.  Although the teaching will be in English, the text is bilingual.  Wang Daowen has four years experience teaching in China, he speaks slowly and clearly, and (compared to most foreigners) his English is easy to understand.

The focus of the seminar is strategic management and business strategy, but participants will also experience a range of teaching methods.  They will also improve their knowledge of business English and their English language skills.

And finally, participants will have the opportunity to spend five days working with other faculty who are interested in, and who teach, strategic management and business strategy in China.

The number of participants in the seminar will be limited to 35.  Each university may send up to two participants.  The seminar is open only to teachers from Chinese universities.

The cost of the seminar will be 800 RMB (which will cover the cost of teaching materials and on-campus meals), plus the cost of hotel accommodation.

To register for the seminar please contact Lou Yuhua at 575-8345008.
